Clinical Supervision Services

“Supervision” is the relationship between supervisor and supervisee that promotes the development of responsibility, skill, knowledge, attitudes, and ethical standards in the practice of clinical social work. The priority in the supervision process is accountability for client care within the parameters and ethical standards of the social work profession. 

I provide individual supervision for aspiring social work professionals working toward an Illinois LCSW.

I am honored to contribute to the integrity of the social work profession by providing Clinical Supervision. I will work with you to develop the skills, knowledge, resources, and passion you need to become the professional you want to be as a Clinical Social Worker. I aspire to be a resource for those who are working to be a resource for others. We will work to maintain open communication and feedback about the supervisory alliance so that it can be fostered and used as an effective component of clinical supervision. 

I have completed Field Supervision training to qualify for the supervision of MSW students in the St. Louis, MO area associated with Washington University, UMSL, and SLU. I have been the field supervisor and Task supervisor of MSW students. I have completed clinical supervision training from NASW and am an approved Supervisor with NASWIL.

Cost/Fees for Service

Individual Supervision Session: 60 minutes                $75 per session

Payment will be expected or charged directly after each session. I encourage you to check with your agency, if applicable, on fees covered or reimbursement made toward supervision.

Supervision and licensure requirements

At this time, supervisees must be working in the state of Illinois and seeking supervision toward an Illinois license, unless granted direct permission from the state licensing board(s).

  •   MSWs must work for 3,000 hours under the supervision of an LCSW

  •  PhDs/DSWs must work for 2,000 hours under supervision of an LCSW

  •   BSWs are ineligible for the LCSW

You must be currently working in the social work field. The work may be paid or volunteer work, but it must be direct practice experience (non-clerical). Your work must consist of client contact or administrative work directly related to client contact to count toward your licensure.

  •   You may work part-time (15–30 hrs/wk) or full-time (30–40 hrs/wk).

You must meet with your supervisor(s) an average of four hours per month to discuss client cases and treatment procedures.

  •   You may have different supervisors at different times, provided they’re all licensed appropriately. Proof of supervision hours completed will be required for any supervisees who have previously completed hours with a different clinical supervisor.

Employment Status Requirement and Verification of Eligibility:

The Supervisee represents that they are employed in a manner consistent with all applicable Illinois laws and regulations governing supervised clinical social work experience for LCSW licensure.

o The Supervisor does not provide supervision for clinical experience obtained through an employment arrangement that does not satisfy Illinois requirements for acceptable supervised clinical experience including independent contractor (1099) relationship where such employment arrangement is prohibited under Illinois law.

o If the Supervisee's employment status changes, or if the Supervisor becomes aware that the Supervisee is functioning as an independent contractor in violation of Illinois law or applicable IDFPR requirements, supervision shall immediately cease until the employment arrangement is brought into compliance. Any hours accrued during periods of non-compliant employment may not qualify toward licensure, and the Supervisor makes no representation or guarantee that such hours will be accepted by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

o Supervisee must provide proof of eligibility before supervision begins by providing one of the following:

  • copy of LSW

  • IDFPR license verification

  • employment offer

  • job description

  • agency supervision policy

  • malpractice insurance (if applicable)

o The Supervisee shall not represent themselves as an independent clinical social worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker and shall not practice beyond the scope of authority permitted under their Illinois license.

o The Supervisor cannot guarantee acceptance of supervision hours, approval of licensure, examination eligibility, or issuance of an LCSW license by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Final determination rests solely with IDFPR.

Practice Outside the State of Illinois:

If the Supervisee provides clinical social work services while physically located outside the State of Illinois, regardless of where the client is located, the Supervisee is solely responsible for determining and maintaining compliance with the laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and telehealth requirements of the jurisdiction in which the Supervisee is physically practicing.

o Prior to providing services from another state or U.S. territory, the Supervisee shall verify that the jurisdiction permits them to provide telehealth services to clients located in Illinois under their Illinois license and shall obtain any additional licenses, registrations, permits, or authorizations required by that jurisdiction.

o The Supervisee agrees to promptly notify the Supervisor of any change in physical practice location or any change in applicable laws or regulations that may affect the Supervisee's authority to practice. The Supervisor reserves the right to suspend or terminate supervision if the Supervisee is unable to demonstrate compliance with all applicable state laws and licensing requirements.

o The Supervisor assumes no responsibility or liability for the Supervisee's failure to comply with the laws or regulations of any jurisdiction outside the State of Illinois. The Supervisee acknowledges thatsupervision provided under this Agreement does not constitute legal advice or a determination that the Supervisee is authorized to practice in another jurisdiction.

You may either have a supervisor who works for your employer or one you retain privately.

  •   If seeking supervision outside of your employer, please check with your employer’s reimbursement policies to determine if you can receive reimbursement for supervision fees.
